A Western Canadian client approached us with a unique request for an incentive trip for their independent dealers: the destination had to introduce participants to the mystique, culture, and timeless allure of the Orient. One destination immediately came to mind—Turkey, a country beautifully positioned at the crossroads of East and West, where Asia and Europe meet in spectacular fashion.
With that inspiring vision in place, we set to work crafting an unforgettable journey.
Day 1: Arrival in Istanbul
After a 12-hour overnight flight from Vancouver, the group arrived in Istanbul in the early evening. Though understandably a bit weary from the journey, they were warmly welcomed and whisked away to the elegant Conrad Istanbul Bosphorus for a relaxing overnight stay.
Day 2: Discovering the Magic of Istanbul
Following a hearty Turkish breakfast and a chance to recharge, the group set out to explore one of the world’s most fascinating cities guided by a knowledgeable local guide.
The day began at the Leather Outlet Center, where guests enjoyed a lively fashion presentation before continuing on a panoramic tour of Istanbul’s historic treasures. One of the highlights was the ancient Hippodrome of Constantinople, once the center of civic and political life during the Byzantine era. Here, the group admired the famous Obelisk brought from ancient Egypt, a monument that once symbolized eternal life and devotion to the gods.
Nearby stood the remarkable Serpent Column, an ancient Greek bronze monument originally erected at Delphi to commemorate victory over the Persians at the Battle of Plataea. Moved to Constantinople by Constantine the Great, it remains one of Istanbul’s enduring historical treasures.
The exploration continued to the elegant German Fountain, a beautiful neo-Byzantine structure gifted by German Emperor Wilhelm II to commemorate his historic visit to Istanbul. Its golden mosaics and graceful marble columns offered yet another glimpse into the city’s layered history.
No visit to Istanbul would be complete without experiencing the magnificent Blue Mosque, famed for its six minarets and stunning blue Iznik tiles. Standing proudly across from it is the awe-inspiring Hagia Sophia, one of the world’s most celebrated cultural and architectural landmarks.
After a full day immersed in history and culture, the group enjoyed a sumptuous Turkish dinner before returning to the hotel for a well-earned evening of rest.
Day 3: Markets, Culture, and Farewell to Istanbul
The morning began with a visit to the legendary Spice Bazaar, also known as the Egyptian Bazaar, where the aromas of exotic spices, teas, and sweets filled the air. From there, the group continued to the iconic Grand Bazaar, one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, home to more than 4,000 shops. Guests delighted in browsing handcrafted souvenirs, Turkish textiles, jewelry, and local treasures.
That evening, the farewell dinner in Istanbul was held at Grace Rooftop Restaurant, where breathtaking panoramic views of the city created the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening.
Day 4: The Wonders of Cappadocia
After breakfast, the group transferred to the domestic airport for a short flight to Cappadocia, one of Turkey’s most enchanting regions.
Known for its surreal landscapes and iconic “fairy chimneys,” Cappadocia feels almost otherworldly. Ancient cave dwellings carved into the cliffs and valleys tell stories dating back thousands of years, while dramatic canyons and rock formations create a landscape unlike anywhere else on Earth.
Upon arrival, the group checked into the beautiful Taşkonaklar Hotel, a Michelin-recognized property blending luxury with authentic local charm. Following a traditional Turkish coffee welcome, the exploration began.
The first stop was Pigeon Valley, a scenic valley stretching between Göreme and Uçhisar, famous for its thousands of ancient dovecotes carved into the cliffs.
Next came the captivating Devrent Valley, also known as Imagination Valley, where extraordinary rock formations resemble animals, people, and fantastical shapes sculpted naturally over millions of years.
The group then visited a local Carpet Weaving Center, where artisans demonstrated the intricate craft of handmade Turkish carpet weaving. Several guests could not resist taking home beautifully made rugs as lasting keepsakes.
The day concluded at Avcılar Valley, where sweeping views of the region’s fairy chimneys and the majestic Mt. Erciyes provided a breathtaking finale to the day’s discoveries.
That evening, a final dinner at the hotel gave the group time to relax, reflect, and savor the final moments of an extraordinary journey.
Day 5: Journey Home
The following morning, the group returned to Istanbul for their flight home—bringing with them unforgettable memories, deeper connections, and fond experiences that will undoubtedly stay with them for years to come.
